Everything you need to know about keeping your convoy connected.
Roger That is purpose-built for convoys and group travel. While Zello is a general walkie-talkie app, we combine push-to-talk voice with live maps, route planning with waypoints, quick status updates, and convoy-specific features like sudden stop alerts. No accounts needed, no subscriptions, and everything works together in one app.
Nope. Just open the app, pick a callsign (nickname), and join or create a trip. No email, no phone number, no password. When your trip ends, you're done. Privacy by design.
Roger That requires cellular data or WiFi to work. We're optimized for weak signals and low bandwidth, so it works great even in rural areas with spotty coverage. For true off-grid scenarios with zero cell service, satellite communicators are still your best bet.
The convoy leader searches for destinations (gas stations, restaurants, scenic stops) and adds them as waypoints. With one tap, the complete route—with all stops and distances—is shared with everyone in the convoy. Everyone sees the same waypoints on their map, knows distances to each stop, and gets automatic arrival notifications when they reach each waypoint.
Absolutely. Location data is shared directly between convoy members and never touches our servers. Only members of your active trip can see your location, and all data is erased when the trip ends. No tracking, no storage, no selling your data. Privacy is a core design principle, not an afterthought.
Yes. Roger That runs on iOS (iPhone) and Android devices. Everyone in your convoy can use their preferred platform—they all work together seamlessly.
We recommend groups of 20-30 participants for the best experience. Larger groups work, but audio coordination can get chaotic beyond that size. For very large events (50+ riders), consider splitting into smaller sub-convoys.
Yes. Roger That runs in the background on both iOS and Android, so you can use Apple Maps or Google Maps for turn-by-turn navigation while staying connected to your convoy. Push-to-talk notifications appear on your lock screen, and you can even reply with voice without unlocking your phone.
Very little. Expect around 10-20 MB per hour of active use. Even on limited data plans, you'll be fine for a full day of convoy travel. We've optimized everything to keep data usage minimal.
Yes. When creating a trip, toggle "Private" and set a 4-digit PIN. Only people with the trip code AND the PIN can join. Perfect for closed groups, organized rides, or family convoys.
Sometimes you need to signal intent without talking. Tap a status icon (⛽ Fueling, 🚻 Restroom, 🍔 Food, ☕ Coffee, 🚗 Traffic, ⚠️ Slow Down, 🛑 Pull Over, 🆘 SOS) and everyone in the convoy sees your status badge instantly. It's like turn signals for convoy coordination.
If a convoy member suddenly decelerates from over 30 km/h to a complete stop outside of planned waypoints, everyone gets an alert. This helps catch mechanical failures, accidents, or unexpected emergencies before someone gets left behind.
GPS and background audio do use battery, but we've optimized for road trips. Expect 6-8 hours of active use on a full charge. We recommend car chargers or power banks for all-day rides. Battery status is shared with the convoy so everyone knows who might need a charging break.
Yes, 100% free. No ads, no premium tiers, no in-app purchases. We built this because convoy communication shouldn't cost $500 per rider in hardware or $10/month in subscriptions. If we ever need to monetize, it'll be through optional features for commercial fleets, not core convoy features.
The app is free for all uses, including commercial. If you're running a tour company, delivery fleet, or shuttle service, you're welcome to use it. We may introduce optional commercial features in the future, but the core functionality will always be free.
